Your boat to Venice. Your day, well planned.
Choose the right arrival point, compare the tickets you will actually use and make the return part of the plan.
Choose the arrival point first
For a day around Piazza San Marco, start by checking ACTV line 14 toward San Marco–San Zaccaria via the Lido. For Burano and the northern lagoon, start with line 12. These are different journeys: a boat headed toward Venice is not automatically the best boat for your first stop.
| Your first destination | Starting point for planning | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| San Marco area | ACTV line 14 | Departure, stops and arrival landing |
| Burano | ACTV line 12 | Direction and the stops of your particular sailing |
| Murano or Fondamente Nove | ACTV line 12 route | Whether a connection is needed at your travel time |
Route reference: ACTV’s published Punta Sabbioni map. Use the official waterbus timetables for your actual date; a route map is not a departure schedule.
Single tickets or a day pass?
The standard ACTV 75-minute ticket is listed at €9.50 and the one-day ticket at €25 in the official ticket information checked on October 10, 2026. Confirm the price and conditions before purchase. A private excursion or a different operator’s boat may need its own ticket.
| Separately ticketed journeys | €9.50 tickets | €25 day ticket |
|---|---|---|
| 2: outward and return | €19 | €6 more |
| 3: add one separate journey | €28.50 | €3.50 less |
| 4: two additional journeys | €38 | €13 less |
This compares separate ticket-validity periods, not every individual boarding. Transfers within a valid ticket can change the calculation. Check your whole itinerary against the ticket’s time limit, included services and validation instructions. Do not assume airport travel or an ATVO bus is included.

A manageable Venice day
- Choose one main area. For a first day, use San Marco as your starting point and leave room to walk beyond the busiest streets. Trying to combine several islands with a major museum makes the return timetable harder to manage.
- Set the return before setting lunch plans. Save a preferred boat and a later alternative. Work backward from any onward bus or parking closing time, including the walk to the landing.
- Keep reservations away from your arrival. A queue, a missed departure or an unfamiliar landing should not immediately cost you a timed admission.
- Leave the boat plan accessible offline. Save the route, direction, landing name and departure date. A screenshot of yesterday’s timetable is not a reliable fallback.
At the boarding point
Check the operator, route number, destination and stops before joining a queue. The waterfront can serve more than one type of boat. Follow the instructions for activating or validating your specific ticket, and keep it available during the journey.
For a wheelchair, stroller, bicycle or substantial luggage, check the operator’s current carriage and boarding arrangements in advance. Allow extra time for the walk from your chosen car park or the bus arrival point. Recheck service notices on the day, especially if the weather changes.
Before fixing the date, consult the official Venice access portal for any requirements applying to your visit.
